Benny received his LL.B. (Honors) from the Faculty of Law at the National University of Singapore in 2012 and he was placed on the Dean's List in his final undergraduate year. He was called to the bar in 2013. He then practised as a Deputy Public Prosecutor and State Counsel at the Attorney-General's Chambers, where he handled files and argued in court cases involving a wide range of offences including violence, public order, property, sexual and road traffic offences.
Specializing in Criminal cases, Benny joined Trident Law Corporation as an Associate since March 2016. In the most recent case Muhammad Zuhairie Adely Bin Zulkifli v PP, Benny won an appeal in High Court on behalf of our firm's 17 year-old client, who was allowed to receive reformative training instead of imprisonment and caning.
In mid-2014, Benny returned to NUS as a legal skills tutor, where he imparts legal skills to both undergraduate and graduate law students.
Benny was also recently appointed by the Supreme Court of Singapore to the young amicus curiae panel (2016), where he will be called upon to assist the court in cases involving novel or complex issues of the law.
Benny has published articles in multiple journals. One of his articles has been cited by the High Court of Singapore. Another of his article (on sentencing for the offence of road traffic negligent act causing death) won the Best Feature Article prize awarded by the Law Society-Singapore Law Gazette.
